杵は穀物の脱穀や粉砕に用いられる道具であり、日本では餅を搗くための道具として現代でも使われています。 

年末に餅を搗くことは、各家庭で恒例行事として昔から行われていました。しかし残念なことに現在では、特別なイベントとして餅を搗くことはあっても各家庭で行われる行事ではなくなってしまいました。 

ただ新年に餅を食べることは日本人にとって今でも非常に重要なことで、餅がなければ新年を祝うことはできません。まず餅は神々に供えられ、そなえた後に自分たちでも餅を食べ、神から力を分けてもらっていたのです。

米や餅が重要な食材であることと杵が家紋の文様として使われるようになったことは非常にリンクした事柄です。

A pestle is a tool used for threshing and grinding grain, and in Japan it is still used today as a tool for pounding mochi.

Pounding mochi at the end of the year has been a traditional event in every household since ancient times. Unfortunately, however, although mochi is still pounded as a special event, it is no longer an event held in every household.

Nevertheless, eating mochi during the New Year remains extremely important to Japanese people, and celebrating the New Year without mochi is unthinkable. First, mochi is offered to the gods, and after the offering, people eat it themselves, believing they are receiving strength from the gods.

The importance of rice and mochi as staple foods and the use of the pestle as a family crest motif are closely intertwined. 

We have redesigned the pattern to evoke the rhythmic motion of the pestle.
