牡丹の花の時期は初夏（5月頃）ですが、日本では、秋にできる蕾のみを残して育て、厳冬期に開花させる寒椿もポピュラーです。
薬用としても使われており、元は中国から伝わってきました。

一輪でも圧倒的な存在感を放つのが牡丹や芍薬の魅力です。優雅でありながら力強さも感じさせる姿に惹きつけられます。

日本各地──上野やつくばなど──に有名な牡丹園があり、花の季節になると多くの人々がその美しさを楽しみに訪れます。花や葉のかたちは古くから意匠としても愛され、多くの文様やデザインに使われてきました。

About the Original Peony Pattern Design

While peonies typically bloom in early summer (around May), in Japan, the cold-hardy camellia is also popular. This variety is cultivated by leaving only the buds formed in autumn, forcing them to bloom during the harsh winter months.
Used medicinally as well, the plant was originally introduced from China.

The charm of peonies and tree peonies lies in their overwhelming presence, even as a single bloom. Their form, elegant yet radiating strength, captivates.

Famous peony gardens exist throughout Japan—in places like Ueno and Tsukuba—and during the blooming season, many people visit to enjoy their beauty. The shapes of the flowers and leaves have long been cherished as motifs, appearing in numerous patterns and designs.
